The White Horse, Hedgerley

The Slough, Windsor & Maidenhead branch of CAMRA are pleased to announce that the White Horse in Hedgerley has won both the Pub of the Year 2015 award and the Cider Pub of the Year 2015 award!

Many congratulations to landlord Kevin and the team!

This annual Pub of the Year award went to the White Horse in recognition of its ever-changing and wide range of traditional real ales served straight from casks, and the two large beer festivals held each year serving ales from all over the country.

In addition, the pub has been awarded the branch Cider Pub of the Year, in recognition of its wide range of ciders and perrys.

The award was presented to the pub on 25th May, during one of its excellent Beer Festivals.

Following these branch awards, the pub goes on to the regional heats.

  • David Howard Award
  • The Red Cow, Slough

The Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead branch of CAMRA is delighted to announce that the David Howard Award for Publican of the Year for 2014 has been awarded to Lee Homan, landlord of the Red Cow, Albert Street, Slough.

Many congratulations to Lee and all the staff for all the hard work they have put in to promote the cause of Real Ale at the Red Cow.

The David Howard Award is presented in honour of a Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead CAMRA member and former committee member who died at a young age. The award is to recognise the publican who has done the most to promote Real Ale in the area in the last year. It could be increasing the range of real ales that a pub serves or serving ales in particularly good condition. This is for somebody who goes above and beyond what is expected of a publican. Not only have they been given this award, the Red Cow has also been included in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide for 2015.

The presentation of the award to publican Lee Homan took place at a recent branch meeting held at the pub. The award, a piece of stone shaped like a pint of beer, was presented by branch Vice-Chairman Allan Willoughby (pictured, right, with Lee on the left).

Slough, Windsor & Maidenhead CAMRA Club of the Year 2014 Maidenhead Conservative Club

As well as voting for their favourite Pub, local CAMRA members also get the chance to vote for their favourite Club from those within the branch area. The Slough, Windsor & Maidenhead Branch of CAMRA is pleased to announce that The Conservative Club in Maidenhead has been voted branch Club of the Year for 2014.

This award has been given to The Conservative Club in recognition of the quality of the real ales served. Located right in the heart of Maidenhead town centre the Conservative Club has built up an outstanding reputation for its range and quality of real ales on offer. It serves a range of ales from Fullers and includes guest beers from around the country and earlier in the year held a beer festival showcasing a wider range of beers.

Many congratulations to manager Ray Williams and all the staff for all the hard work they have put in over the year. The club has appeared regularly in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide in recognition of the quality of the ales available and has won many accolades over the years.

The award presentation was made on Saturday 5th April, during the club's Festival of Beers. The photo shows our branch Chairman, Nick, left, presenting the award to Ray.

The Conservative Club will now go forward for judging against other award winning clubs within the South Central region in the Club of the Year competition.
