It is unusual these days to de able to say that a pub has had the same landlady for more than 2 years, let alone 10.

However, we had cause to celebrate recently when Peggy Smith, of the Rose in Maidenhead was presented with our ‘Vic Powell’ award for just that reason. Peggy celebrated 10 years running the pub and over 30 years as a publican in the town.

The award is presented to a long serving publican with a commitment to real ale and consists of a tankard engraved with their name making it personal.

Our criteria for long serving is over 10 years, so Peggy’s 10th year at the pub gave us an excellent opportunity to award her achievement.

Vic Powell was our branch chairman until he sadly passed away last January at the age of 51. He is missed by us all and we felt that an award to remember him by was a fitting tribute to his friendship.

This only the second time the award has been presented and it is well deserved. The presentation took place on August 11th during a very enjoyable evening at the pub.
